Out of Norm Travels - Thailand - Farm, Farmer and Farming day i.e. Jim Thompson Farm, Chok Chai farm, Corn Farm

Here's a combined trip involving 3 farms in 1 day outside of Bangkok that I recently tried out and enjoyed my day out in the countryside:

Farm, The Jim Thompson Farm (http://www.jimthompsonfarm.com/)

This farm has been in our 'to-do' list for some 2 years as it is only open for a limited time each year. This year, it is only open till 10 Jan 2016 and based on the theme of rice merit making (Mang Moon Boon Khao).

Once inside, I was greeted by fields of cosmos blooms as far as the eye can see. A hop onto the bus ride brought me close to the Pumpkin Patch attraction which is surrounded by the Phayaprab hills that is filled with Giant pumpkins.

An Isan village showcases Isan architectural styles at Jim Thompson Farm including a Korat- styled house that is honored with an Architectural conservation award by the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage.  The ambiance of this place is enhanced with sounds of Molam, a genre of music quintessential to this Isan / Isaan region and its way of life.

Farmer, Chok Chai Farm (http://www.farmchokchai.com/en/)

The drive is about 1.5hrs from The Jim Thompson Farm to Chok Chai Farm, an eco-conscious farm that is dedicated to manage a modern dairy farm. This has always been our place to go for steak and it helps that this farm is open all year round with overnight stays in tents in the farm area. They also have a regular Agro train ride that showcases the various sections around the farm. I covered this in an earlier post which is available at http://jpgmag.com/stories/17237.

Having reached here just in time for lunch, the family headed down to the Chok Chai Steakhut for a wonderful meal which included, you guessed it, beef steak. The steak is done right i.e. juicy and tender at the same time. But there's almost always a queue when we are here during lunch time especially during the weekends so be prepared to wait some 20-30 mins before you get a table.

After lunch, we got a nice dessert which uses their signature 'Um.... Milk' (their own brand of milk ice cream or milk dessert) that completes an excellent meal. As always, it is a joy to visit here.

Farming, Corn Farm

This final farm destination for the day is a mere 5 mins drive from Chok Chai Farm. How popular is this place? Well, imagine a queue of 40 people waiting to buy cooked corn or corn milk (made from young corn)....you get the picture...

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to try this time round but heard from my guide that it is really really nice....maybe the next time when I swing around this neck of the woods.

We reached Bangkok after 2.5hrs drive (due to heavy traffic conditions). Hope you enjoyed reading about my little farming adventure and until the next time, onto the world and beyond!
