Out of Norm Travels - Chasing for the Stars @ Bromo, Indonesia (2013 and 2014)
Astro or Star gazing is a new genre of photography for me and frankly quite intimidating and foreign territory for a city girl like me.
Stars are something present but unseen in many parts of the little island city due to the vast amounts of light pollution. However, the first impression of astro following a pre trip workshop is how complicated the entire process is with different considerations for the taking a decent photograph.
Naturally, my expectations of getting something decent from my first astro photography trip to mount Bromo is understandably on the low side. What I got out of the trip is definitely more than I expected.
The amazement of seeing the millions of stars clearly for the first time reminded me of the many reasons I took up this amazing art form. It helps when it takes some 4 hours by van to reach Bromo from Surabaya and although it is near to some villages, the level of light pollution is low. Justin our pro was aware of the daunting nature of this genre and gave us key highlights of each trip out in bite sizes so that newbies like me don't feel too overwhelmed. In the end I just went with the flow and tried my best to take what I consider to be decent shots....here are my 3:
#1 - Milky Way with the 4th brightest star in the night sky (Arcturus) seen at the bottom right
#2 - Milky Way with the local men warming themselves at the bottom right
Definitely a place to revisit and explore the techniques of shooting - which is why I jumped at the chance to go back again in May 2014.
This is Part 2 of my Chase for the Stars at Mount Bromo. Thankfully, armed with slightly better knowledge and good company, I had another memorable trip filled with laughter and jaw dropping wonderful captures. Will let the photos speak for themselves....
#1 - Milky Way and Meteor on the Bottom right
#2 - Milky Way Between the Temple Gates of Hindu Temple Pura Luhur Poten
#3 - Milky Way over Bromo with the Sea of Sand at the foreground
Time lapse of the Chase for the Stars...hope you enjoyed it!
Video quality not quite good on blogger so sorry.... for those who are friends on my FB, you can head down there for a view of the video in HD on FB
Till the next adventure, onto the world and beyond!
